Coolant and Cold Air
Hey,
My main question has to do with a coolant leak. I had my car on a lift to change the oil and found that the leak I had found earlier seems to be coming from the back of the engine and down on the tranny. It seems to be leaking right from where the bellhousijng is connected to the tranny. I aked my auto teacher and he said it is probably either from hoses going to the heater core or possibly from the freeze plugs in the heads. Please help!!! Sounds like your teacher told you the correct thing. Whats the problem? What kind of help do you want? Get out there and check those hoses for leaks. Do it, and do it now! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif
BBK cold air kits suck, they hit the strut tower and the chrome flakes off easily. Cant speak for the MAC, but since they are identical, maybe the same problems. Go for the moroso. ------------------ 1993 GT/AOD '93 Mustang GT |
I too am somewhat confused by what kind of help you want. If I drive down to San Diego to inspect it for you, you will have to pay my $65 per hour labor rate for the drive time as well as the work time. If you are having trouble locating the leak, just use a cooling system pressure tester. The leak will present itself.
BTW, my labor rate is only $45 p/h, but for diagnostics, it's $65 p/h with a 1 hour minimum. Check/replace the heater inlet/outlet hoses. PKRWUD: Your rates are quite reasonable. My buddy charges $55. per hour straight rate but it's an automatic $65. to put your car on the tester. This is typical shop pricing on the east coast. |

Thanks. I have less overhead, so I can pass on the savings. I do need to buy some new equipment though, which means my rates will probably go up in January. Around here most dealers charge $70+ p/h and most indies charge $60 p/h. Don't forget the coolant line running to the throttle body. I've had those things leak a couple times.
I would guess one of your hoses is leaking. Replace them, they only cost a few bucks. The whole group probably won't set you back much more than $20. |
Thanks for all your suggestions. I am going to use a pressure tester on monday which will find out where it is coming from. the idea of replacing hoses is good too. I am just hoping it isnt the heater core. Already had to do that in my old oldsmobile. Thanks. Is the moroso cold air kit chrome? I have only seen them in black

The Moroso cold-air kit is a black plastic tube + a conical K&N filter. I have it on my '90 LX. I added a 'Tiny Avenger' black-painted TB inlet tube to replace the crappy stock rubber hose. ($70.) The whole set-up looks great even though it's not chrome. Easy installation. I recommend it.
