Crate Motors
OK my fellow enthusiasts, I finally am in a position to build, build, build. My 1993 5.0 HB is dedicated to racing now that I have a '98 BMW M3 for regular commute (don't rib me too hard)....
In anycase, was wondering if your guys/gals have any experience with Ford Racing's crate engine combinations...any feed back (good & bad) needed... Over the next several months (as long as the money holds out) I'll be pestering many of you who have already blazed a path into the 11's so bear with me and wish me luck... ------------------ |
I bought the GT-40 crate engine from them and put it in my car. I have had no problems with it. But, I don't know about the motors that will get you into the 11 second range. I am not there yet http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif. I would think though that if you are wanting to build a car just for racing, you would be better off talking to a lot of people and coming up with your own combo.

How do you want to get into 11's N\A or power adder?

If you're gonna go looking for 11s, forget the Ford GT40 crate motors. They'll never make 11s out of the box and that's pretty much the point of a crate motor, isn't it? They have hypereutic (spelling?) pistons too so they won't hold up much to any sort of power adder. You could use a small blower. Any large dose of nitrous will kill one of those in short order though. Nitrous (in large doses) can make a frequency during combustion that will shatter a hypereutic piston like glass. Maybe a turbo....who knows. The FRPP catalog does have a 347 short block with forged pistons, though. It's not a crate motor, but it's a good buy.
