have 82' merc. capri with 7.5" posi and drum brakes. need info and opinions. not building a racer, 275 horse or so, do i even need to swap it out for a 8.8"? what about disc brake conversions? what cars out there would be a direct bolt on or minor mod.?
any sources of info or fox body specific shops in the northwest anybody is aware of? please help, reply here or rokdog13@hotmail.com |
I would have put this in the Windsor Power if I were you. Anyway, theres a chance that the 7.5 will hold up forever or might break leaving the line at the strip. I would upgrade it to a 8.8 in fear that I would snap an axel.

The 7.5's are stronger than most think, and should handle 275 horsepower as long as you don't bolt on a pair of real sticky tires or slicks. Although I swaped in an 8.8 about a year ago, I put a set of 3.45 gears in my 7.5 and ran it for years. It's still in one piece out in the garage. You can also bolt a girdle on to the 7.5 and strengthen it's weakest part...the bearing caps.
