paging:ALL SPEED DENSITY GURUS, E303=surging idle
i've played w.idle adj. plate and screw on tb, tps, egr hooked, unhooked(though not func.)
guy at speed shop said pull chip out, I did it helped alot this whole time idle being the only prob, at 1100, at 1700, or surging from 1000-1800. car drives good, bucks like typical E303 below 2000 on decel(ie. 4gear,30mph,3.73), somehow pulls hard to 6000, falls off a lil but pulls pretty good to 6500 it almost seems as if its retarded, but I've been running a stock cam for the last 2 years(in THIS car)so... is this as worse as it gets(ie. get x303w/1.7's or bigger and live w/surge?) oh yeah, its E303 w/1.7's straight up, heavily ported, milled 289 heads, longtubes 1 5/8, 3"exhaust, performer intake-ported up,lowercleaned up, 70mmtb,elect fan, etc.etc. ------------------ ram air 70mm tb ported performer ported 289heads 1.94,1.6 1 5/8 LT's |
What's your fuel pressure set at? Have you played with that at all?
|
yeah, everything from 36-50
it runs best at 50 |
Your speed density system runs itself gauged by the vaccuum in the motor. When you put the e-303 in you dropped the vaccuum and the computer is speaking english but trying to read Chinese-has no idea what to do so it just decides to run crappy. The only way I've seen to correctly cure this is to go to a dyno and get a chip burnt for your car. At WOT their is no vaccuum no matter what cam you run so that is why it works fine then-it's set up to run that way.

I'd try to get a hold of 88workcar, he's running an E-303 with SD. He had a bunch of problems with his idle, but he recently got it working.
He may know the secret. Hehe, I swear that guy must get more SD questions! I think we need a forum called 88workcar's Speed Density Workshop! http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif |
I have experienced surging idle problems with the e303 cam and mass air. Some have problems with this cam, some dont. One of the great mysteries of the world. Anyhow, the e-303 is probably the worst cam u could have picked for a speed density car. It has a 110 LSA, not computer friendly, especially speed density.
The only way I solved my surging idle problem was to swap the cam (remember, this was a mass air car, and i tried EVERYTHING else), so maybe you will have better luck. By the way, i sold the cam to my friend, he put it in a mass air car, and it runs great, go figure? ------------------ 1993 GT/AOD '93 Mustang GT |
yeah, I want to get hold of 88workcar
I think the valves are too tight, its actually livable, but I think I can get it perfect, looking for suggestions, I know Jason(88workcar) have been up and down this road. part gets me is part throttle drivability is fine, just idle $hitty |
ok ok
reset lash idles steady 1050(no surge) w/out chip 1100-1400(but not 1700 before) w/chip I'll see if the computer can relearn the chip or I'll sell it for $ for fuel pump |
