Please help me get reverse!!
I would appreciate any help that someone can give me on this problem so I don't needlessly pull the tranny or something.
1989 Mustang, 5.0, T-5 with hurst shifter. The car was driving just fine and shifting fine when I left home last weekend, then about 4 hours into my trip I downshifted to pass someone, passed them, and when I shifted back into 5th I noticed a slight grind, then the car went into gear and no more problems so I didn't think much of it. Then when I made it back to school, I went to put the car in reverse to go into a parking spot and there was no reverse. It doesn't grind or anything, just doesn't go into gear. I guess the best way to describe it would be like trying to put the car into gear without pushing in the clutch (without that whining noise) Thanks a ton for any ideas -Jonathon |
Try to put the car in 5th or first then into revese

I have gone through all different combo's of fifth revers, first reverse, etc... I even did them both with the car running or off, and it still doesn't work. The local ford dealer said over the phone it sounds like a shifter problem to him, but he didn't know until he saw it.

i think you should start by checking out the shifter, the ford guys sound right. Check the shift linkages
