I just broke the 3550 this summer. On launch with slicks it won't shift into second untill there is no load on the tires. It works fine on the street, thats why I'm swapping it into my 93lx this weekend.
I'm not sure what the 3550 is rated at but I think it is 400 foot pounds. It is a great trans for street and strip... it has the same input and output shaft as the t5's so it will slide right in.
I just bought a TKO II today, and it has the huge input and output shafts and is rated at 550 foot pounds.

I bought it from Liberty transmissions. It is a proshifted TKO II and it came with the rear yoke for 2050.00
If you want to swap in the TKO inplace of a t-5 you need

Tremec bellhousing
new clutch disk
trans yoke
and you have to move the crossmember back

The 3550 will slide in with just the bellhousing and moving the crossmember. My 3550 would not of broke if I had a more forgiving clutch. It is a super strong trans and can handle allot more than it is rated for.

I just put a 3550 with a center force dual friction clutch in my 95 with no problems related to the tranny. I didnt even have to move the cross member. I plan on putting in a 427 stroker. I did find the the drive gear for the speedo is different. With 2.73 gears I couldnt correct the speedo. Just a good reason to change the gears.
