Default TR-3550 or TKO??? Not sure.

Hey,

Anyone want to help my indecisiveness?

If I call someone for support they may try to lead me in the one that makes them the most money. I don't know whether I will need the TKO or not, because I really don't want to spend that kind of money.

I don't even know what my estimated HP and TQ will be!!! If you guys want to help me out with that estimate that's fine too.

I've got anywhere from 400-540 hp and 415-515 lb/ft of torque, but I don't know.

Do I need the TKO?

I don't know what this motor is going to do. I think my biggest part of the horsepower equation is I can't figure out my compression.

Here's what I've got going on bottom to top...:
1970 Mustang Fastback
351 C DOAE Quench 4V Heads Ported
~ 64.3 CC heads before shaved about .020
351C Block 4.040 bore
3.5 Stroke
TRW-Flat top pistons 40 over
2.19/1.71 Valves
Mech. Roller lifters
Cam 9* adv. .612 gross lift on each side 255 dur.
1.73 Roller Rockers
"0" Deck
Crane Hi-6 Ignition, MSD Distributor
Funnelweb Intake w/ port stuffers
Demon 850 cfm carburetor
And an occasional 100 shot of No2 Not enough to worry about

Don't hold me up to this but I'm not sure you can put either tranny behind a cleaveland without some fabrication. That particular type is for the windsor family. I don't like either type but if you did manage to mount it behind a C motor I'd go with the TKO. Beter safe than sorry. I've driven both types of transmission one on an older mustang and another on an 88' and they both were tempermental while shifting. Unless you drove in race mode. Which is good if it's a strip car only but I personally like the weaker T-5 for moderate HP/TQ numbers and daily driving.

Temperamental while shifting?

Just so everyone knows...... Clevelands take the exact same bolt pattern as any other small block Ford. No fabrication is necessary.

Clevelands are small blocks, contrary to everyone else may think.

I'm going through the same thing. I can get either much cheaper than retail, but I am going to go with the TKO so I will have room to grow on in case I decide on a s/c. I would hate to spend the money for a 3550 now just to get more power later and worry about breaking it. But the 3550 is no slouch though, it handled the S351 saleen. But if it were me I would go with the strongest and not worry about it again.

Default Tko

I have a TKO behind my CLeveland and I am very happy I did it that why. The 3550 is a good tranny too but the Cleveland can be made to make some good torque so just wanted to buy one tranny now and not have to buy another one again later. Good luck. Also are your hourse power numbers with the nitrous or without?

No nitrous. I just got some information I'm going to have some serious problems with. I need about $4000 inside the bellhousing.

I dont' understand what problems are you going to be having? Is it that it is going to cost you 4000 dollars to do this?
