Problem

I recently installed the engine back into my 91 mustang. This morning I started the car for only the second time.

And I have some problems, I have ticking sound on the drivers side AND smoke coming out near the #7 plug.

The timing is set at 10 degrees, 39 psi, the plugs are right, I have no exhaust leak.

BUT the bigger problem is that A LOT coolant is coming out of the passenger side muffler..

I'm at a loss here..

www.angelfire.com/co4/mustang928/problems.html ,for the pictures.. ALL the coolant is from running the car idle for about 45 sec.

Sounds like either a dropped intake gasket or a head gasket. I would pull the upper intake first then look inside and see if you missed anything. When ever I do the lower intake, I always use HIGHTACK gasket compound. It is like a glue / sealer that holds gaskets inplace. AS soon as it touches, it won't move, so get it right the first time ! Use BLACK rtv at the ends of the intake and put a small amount around the water ports and you should be ok. I have never had a problem when I do it this way...knock on wood !

I hope it's the lower intake gaset.. Crossing my fingers, I would hate having to tear the engine apart again!!!

I just think it too much water for it to a head gasket?

I hope it is just the inatke gasket too. Don't forget to change the oil as soon as you are done with the repair. The hi-tack gasket stuff can be bought at AutoZone.

Sorry, I can't help you.

Just wanted to say that all that polished metal looks sweet!:D

Yeah it sounds like a possible gasket problem. Also, as far as the ticking sound and smoke from #7 cylinder, make sure the spark plug is tight.
