Problem with Pro-M MAF meter?!?!
 

I have been having some pretty bad idle surging lately and found it to be my MAF meter. It mainly happens on start up, when the car is at operating temp. On a cold start the car idles fine, but on a warm start up it will surge bad and sometimes die. I cleaned the electronic terminals on the meter with a q-tip and then sprayed residue free electronic cleaner over them. This helped some, but didn't cure the problem. When I put my stock MAF meter on, the car idled fine. I would really not like to use the stock meter, but I don't like the way the Pro-M is operating. Is this a common problem with Pro-M meters, or did I get a faulty one? Would it be better to get a C&L meter or something other then a Pro-M?

I have never had any problems with both of my Pro-M's that I've had (changed injector size twice). This is news to me. Is the Pro-M calabrated for your injectors? I had a similar surging problem but that was after I installed my intake. I bought this spacer plate from Ford that goes between the TB and the IAC. It had two screws on the side of it to adjust the idle speed. I don't know if this might help you or not because you talked about the stock MAF working better. See what other ppl say...

I've got the ol cheapy Pro-M 75mm Bullet MAF and my 331 idles like a dream, even with a good sized cam and 24#ers. I do have a JMS chip, but it idled fine before the chip.

Are you sure you don't have a vacuum leak somewhere?

According to Pro-M (while I was talking to the owner, during a visit to the shop) he says taht usually the meters are just dirty.
Didnt quite get into how to clean them, but the filament is usually the culprit.

Thats what I thought. I cleaned the filament about 6 months ago and it worked fine again. Then just the other week it started having the same symptoms that it did before I cleaned it the last time. So I cleaned the filament again, but it didn't totaly fix the problem this time. Is it possiable that the filament is damaged?
