mass air 87GT conversion
Confused about speed density to mass air conversion.
From what I read, (advertising) you can use a 19# mass air meter, and a conversion harness, and convert a stock '87 GT air-density to mass air..using the stock computer . Is this a workable project, does it work, and has anyone done it? I'd like to save the $$ over buying a new conversion kit, but spending $100 (cable and used meter) on something that is half-baked is hardly wise either. If I upgrade my cam, and headers on a rebuild, will the stock computer handle larger injectors and a larger mass air meter?..(if this kind of conversion is possible in the first place) dazed and confused in Mustang land <g> |

greydan, you will need a mass air harness, the mass air meter, and i am pretty sure you will need a new (mass air) computer. if there are autowreckers in your area, go & look for a 89-92(93???) 5.0 mustang that is standard (or auto, depending on your car) and pull the mass air meter, the wiring harness, and the computer located in the passanger side kick pannel.

all you need is air inlet elbow, factory mass air meter, mass air bracket(optional) and the computer from a Mass Air car.. like stated above 89-93.. and then buy the pigtail and install kit from someone like Holcomb its $50 bucks that way you have step by step directions in case you get confused again.. and all the pins, and wire to complete this it took me under an hour to do my 87.. I had its add two wires to the main harness and splice two more real easy!

Just converted my 88 by purchasing the 29.95 kit off of ebay and purchasing the rest from a wreck. A couple of wires need to be sautered to the computer. All I have read says to make sure there are good connections for proper idling. I had the wire fixed by a local shop. Do not spend the bucks on the fms kit!
