Pulleys

this guy at work who i thouht knew his stuff about stangs told me that putting pulley on my car will ruin the engine, bucause that it made the rotating mass diferent so that it will screw up the crank. also this guy from school told me that two. i think it is a bunch of BS...

Tell you buddies they're morons. The only change to the "rotating mass" is the mass of the pulley itself, and if that messes up your engine, take the engine back to the honda dealer and get a 302 from the Ford dealer.

Pulley's will reduce the radial force (torque) required from the crankshaft. The force is then added to the crank on the backside (flywheel side). It has nothing to do with "rotating mass".

Tell these guys to stop smoking crack.

Why don't you ask these "geniuses" why my extra blower pulley on the end of my stock crank hasn't ruined my engine yet! Am I just lucky? (along with the thousands of other blower cars out there!)

The 5.0L engine isn't affected by pulleys, but the 4.6's use them for balancing also. Maybe that's where some of the confusion came from.

i keep sain He smoking a lot of crack but he keeps insisting thats he right, i ahve come back with all of those remarks exept the honda one but he keeps saying it... thinking back... i dont think he has ever done engine work to a 5.0 only 4.6 hes only done suspention work to 5.O and he does infact know his stuff about suspention....

thanks

Are sure jonnyk? I may not be a mechanic, but as an engineer I do know a lot about the laws of physics. Unless the pullies are weighted some how, the "rotating mass", more specifically the inertia of the pullies, would be insigificant.

Like I said I don't know $hit about the 4.6 L, but physically it would not add up.

Oh and jonnyk, we have to meet up before I take off to Texas http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif

I agree with the crack theory. He might know his suspension, but that doesn't count for jack squat when it comes to powertrain components. My best friend worked for a big suspension component company for a long time, and he's good with suspension setups, but he's not exactly an expert motor builder if ya know what I mean, no offense to him. Conversely, I'm great with motor building, but I'm only pretty good with suspension. Go figure...
