Default putting motor back in

ok i have heard mixed revieis on putting my motor back in with the trans still in the car... i have only done it with the trans on the motor and puttign it in all one peice (that was with the small T-5) im gonnabe putting everything all back in this week and i dont want to take the trans out (the big 3550)

what do you guys think....

It can be done. I put mine in with my trans (tko) and long tube headers on and it was not fun. It is simple to take the trans on and off the motor so now I install it with the trans off. Now if it was a auto I do it with the trans on. It's up to you, but it is much more simple with the trans off.

Thats how i did it, it was failry simple, just have to go slow and line it up,

hehe i just remembered, we even had the shifter on, obviously not thinkin that day

edit: after reading your post again, i have the stock t5, so i dont know if i helped any

Of the 15 (at least) times I have pulled a motor. This is THE FIRST time I did it without the tranny...


I installed the TKO from under the car the first time, and will do that again once the motor is back in.

Is your bellhousing still bolted to the trans? I think it would be tough to install this way. Getting the input shaft to line up and engage in the clutch disc is going to be difficult. The easiest way for me is to drop the trans, then put it back in after the engine is in. But then again, I dont mind spending a little more time doing something, so as long as I'm not fighting it.

i as you can prolly guess the motor went in flawlessly... i only had to turn the motor over about a 16th of a turn on the front of the crank... i defenltly recomend a better hoist... and a buy a leveller it m,ade things go a lot eaiser....
