Default Stock T-5 tranny question

I know that the stock T-5 in my 85 is weak but how long would it last if i put a set of drag radials on it and take it to the track every once in a while

im thinking i would kill it if i put on slicks

but just wondering if it would hold with dr's

i really dont want to put money into a new trans, if it wont last long i might as well just sell it to get some money out of it and get a new one.

like i said nothing too serious with racing just a little.

BTW its only got 15,000 original miles on it. and my mods are listed below

It'll hold, my friend has a 85 with an aftermarket trans, still it has lots of miles, it's a wc t5-z with 2.95 1st, and he launches at 4k on e.t. streets with a 400hp 347, the 2nd gr synchro is shot, and grinds pretty good, but it has survived more than i thought it would.....
if they break they break, sometime sthey go out on stangs that dont get raced, just never know, keep the fluid up in it, and launch it hard

I got an 86 GT w/T-5 (i think it's the world class), I've launched it on slicks a bunch of times. Mine has around 120k on it, it whines real bad and grinds into second almost every time, but it's still working. I say do it up.

the T-5 tranny's from 85-89 were the first world class T-5's but they were only rated at 265 ft-lbs. The 90-93's used a different alloy for the gearsets and were rated at 300 ft-lbs. The T-5 Z spec was rated even higher at like 310 I think.

Some people get lucky and thier tranny holds up to plenty of abuse. Other people bust thiers after only a couple passes

i'ts up to you but slicks are the hardest thing on these weaker trannys
