Question Questions question questions!!!!!!!

Here is my scenario. Im looking at purchasing another box truck. from a 95 to a 98. But I have 5 different motor choices to choose from. It will be a daily driver and total average weigth will be around 11,500(e350 cube) The motor choices are. 351w, 5.4(330) , Power stroke Deisel ,460 roller motor. or a 6.8 v-10 gas. Which is the more reliable? I currently have a 460 roller in a 94 with 207,000 miles and it runs like new, and Im not bs'ing this 460 runns like a charm.

Get 'Stroked! The motor is just getting broken in by 100,000 miles and the newer Power Strokes boast a whopping 525 ft-lbs of stump pulling torque. Check out some of the Ford Truck sites for input from owners.

I went from an E-150 conversion with the 351W to a F-250 Power Stroke and there's absolutely no comparison. The F-250 will pull our car/trailer up the mountains at 75mph without kicking out of O/D. The E-150 got about 11mpg towing and the F-250 gets about 17mpg towing. No comparison between the two IMHO.

Go diesel.

There is a reason Rigs and heavy equipment use diesel. It's cheaper, it has more torque, better fuel economy, and lasts forever!

Another vote for the Powerstroke. I did some research on Ford Super Duty's on www.forddiesel.com and found that for towing loads, etc., you can't beat the reliability, 'gas' mileage, and of course the torque output.

BTW, I think forddiesel has changed their name, but I'm not sure what it is. Sorry.

Pay now or pay later. At the end of the day the diesel will cost less to own and operate.

you sure? how about 15 quarts of oil at $2.50 a quart(roughly) and an oil filter about $12 for every 6000 miles or if you run synthetic, every 10,000 miles at $20 a gallon(roughly)about $5 a quart times 15. Diesels do not cost less to operate overall. yes they do get better fuel economy, but maintence is very expensive. filters in general on diesel trucks are generally expensive as well.

when it all comes down, it will be the diesel that will last you 250,000 miles without breaking a sweat.

Well, It seems, All the dealers want upwards of 4k more. for the deisel. Big factor.

srv1, I have a 94 e350, with a 460 roller. It runs now as strong and quiet( burns now oil what so ever )as the day it was new and it has 210,000 miles of HARD driving on it. I have had only 1 major repair, the E4OD needed a rebuild at 175,000 and some much needed updates to its internal.

Well. I go on my road trip tommorrow. NC,TN, GA and possibly Ohio. It seems Florida only has damaged or ragged trucks.

Lots of motor homes and RV's are equiped with 460's, the are meant for life and fuel longitivity, The 460 will put down a mass number of torque also. I have one sitting in the garage for a future project for the coupe. My vote is for the 460.

I also have a 460 sitting in the shed to go in my 79 F-250 when the old motor finally gives out, but......

It would get a powerstroke in a heart beat, if it were not such a task to swap in. I know they are a lot more expensive to buy up front. Yes, the oil changes CAN be more expensive.

I am telling you right now, they are by far the best choice. My fathers 97 f-250 has the 7.3 powerstroke, and the dang thing is an animal, and we have only done a little work to the exhaust and a programmer. With an AOD and a 3.55 gear, it routinely gets 20-21 miles to the gallon....and at worst got 16 when we loaded it down with everything we had and drove at 75-80 mph.

There is no comparing the 460 to the powerstroke when it comes to fuel economy, let alone brute power.
