![]() That price is about right. Go with the FMS gears, especially if you install them yourself. Ford controls the tolerance on their gear sets very closely. Allowing for easier installation. You can probably use the existing pinion shim and install a set of FMS gears and the pinion depth will be right on (of course you must check it)
A gear install is not rocket science. Certainly not for a beginner but with a good understanding of the procedure you can do it in your garage with a few special tools. You will need a pinion depth gauge, gear marking compound, impact wrench is nice but not required, in/lb and ft/lb torque wrench. There are several good articles out there that help, video tapes, and check out the article at the corral. Written pretty well with pictures. ------------------ fordgasm CLICK HERE to see my 87 GT |

![]() Don't bother. Unless you're a shop the expense in tools is a waste of money. Installing gears is not for a beginner.

![]() yeah, its best left done to the professionals, although its pretty well straighforward its kind of a pain, theres going to be some seals that you might end up breaking and having to replace, you should be able to reuse races, shims, and most of the bearings, but youll need a crush sleeve, and a gasket for sure, if youre a beginner and you have patience, l'd say tackle it, if not and 270 bucks doesnt sound like a lot of money to you - take it in

![]() With that much torque on a 351, you should only need 3.55s. First gear goes by pretty quick.

I think I will take it in I dont have the time to do it My car is all ways in parts I want to drive as fast as I can and without the headache I get for things not going as planed. 10Months in the garage I want to have fun with it. And not break stuff on it. ![]() [This message has been edited by Stang Runner (edited 06-21-2001).] |
