![]() You will need a Digital voltmeter and a philips screwdriver. Turn the ignition on, but don't start the car. Probe the green wire coming out of the TPS. Slightly loosen the two TPS screws and gently turn them to get the right voltage reading. I believe it should be between 0.95v and 1.00v. You don't have to turn it very much. When you tighten the screws back, double check the voltage to make sure it is still correct.
Also, the voltage should be around 4.7 volts at WOT. |

![]() Probe the wires with voltmeter and make sure the voltage is at .98 or thereabouts with closed throttle. Should go to 4.7 with WOT and should do it smoothly without jumps or flat spots along the way. The voltage changing smoothly is more important than what it's set at with closed throttle. There's only three things the computer is really looking for: closed throttle, part throttle, and WOT.
If everything checks out, don't bother touching the screws. If not, you just loosen the two screws and rotate it until you get the correct voltage and then you tighten the screws back down. The TPS on 5.0 Mustangs was never intended to be adjustable. It's just one of those hyped up tips that magazines started. ------------------ 351W 89 Mustang GT Convertible [This message has been edited by jimberg (edited 06-19-2001).] |

![]() If the tps wasn't designed to be adjusted, will this "adustment" really help my idle.

![]() Same kinda question. Your right, on the 94-95's they really are not adjustable like the pre-94's. Your could loosen up the screws and tap on it to change it sometimes, but very little. On my 92, I get 1.4 which is way off... Full scale is 1.4to 1.8 on the other end. Would .99 be in the middle somewhere, is it a linear scale?
Thanks. |

![]() Purestreet, it sounds like your TPS needs to be replaced. That doesn't sound right at all. Are you sure you're checking it correctly? Explain how you're doing it.
Oneba87lx, the TPS would affect your idle if it was showing part throttle when it should be showing closed throttle. If it's under 1 volt now, that shouldn't be a problem. What kind of voltage are you getting from it that you feel the need to adjust it? If you're having idle problems, you may want to start another thread describing it, what you've done so far to fix it, and what modifications you've done to your car. ------------------ 351W 89 Mustang GT Convertible [This message has been edited by jimberg (edited 06-19-2001).] |

![]() Well, I turn the key on, engine off. Ground the one side of the voltmeter to the car, or puncture the black wire on the TPS, same results. Probe the green wire on the TPS and it's at 1.3 in the full counter clockwise position, and upwards of 1.8 on the other side. I checked it at WOT, and that too is messed up showing from 9.5 to 10.2, when it is supposed to be around 4.7-5.0. I've checked the research threads and dremeled out the screw holes a bit, but still the min I got was 1.2V. This can't be right. I've heard of adjusting the air screw, and some other things? Can you test the TPS sensor, or does is just work, or not? I just bought the car, and I'm going through the standard 5.0 clean up. K&n, new plugs, wires, cap/rotor/fuel filter, threw some timing in there, and made sure that restrictor piece was not in the fender on the other side of the filter. The car is a 92 and has 130K on it, and has moved in 15 months.
Any Suggestions? The thing actually runs real hard, but this TPS thing might make it better. [This message has been edited by PureStreet (edited 06-19-2001).] |

![]() Sounds like you need to get a new TPS.
FYI: About $35. at a Ford dealer; less at Pep Boys or Auto Zone. Easy installation too. |
