![]() I was wondering what intake, heads, etc.. i should get for my 429 to easily make 600hp. I don't need any more than not (not that more is bad though) because i do want to drive it on the street some. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

![]() Why 600 horse? If you cant hook it, it doesnt matter how much you have. Not cuttin you down but here is what I would run if I was building a Big block.. First.. get a 460 crank and put in it. Bore .60 over ( GET A GOOD RADIATOR ) The 460 crank and the 429 crank are the same other that stroke to make up for the cubic inches. Will fit in a 429 block. Blocks are same. Get a good set of "truck" rods, for 460, 40cc Dome pistons for Cobra Jet aluminum heads or DOVE cast stock heads, Torker II or Performer RPM intake. Cam with lift above .700", 850 Holley D.P. Carb. That should get you close to your desired Hp range. I advise that you get the DOVE heads instead of aluminum. Ive worked with a truck load of both sets of heads. The aluminum heads are junk unless you plan on turning over 7 grand for an extended period of time. I suggest the DOVE heads, good set of springs, stainless valves and a professional port job with a good set of big tube headers with 3 inch exhaust fillin out the combo. Hope this helps..

![]() I was going to build a similar motor for my 86 GT, I have a 1970 429 in the machine shop, so far it's all apart and I have a victor 4150 intake, aluminum FORD RACING valve covers, timing chain, fuel pump, HV oil pump/swap oil pan. It started as just wanting to build a mild big block, but now I want to build a 514 w/FMS cobrajet or Trick Flow A-460 heads, big solid roller cam, etc. I just don't know if I can/want to spend the money it's gonna take to build it, especially on a stock block. I've thought about an A-460 block from Ford, but they're around $2000, then a stroker kit's around $2000, heads $2000, cam $300-600 if I go with a custom grind (at least w/roller lifters) $200-300 roller rockers, $300 for a bigger pan w/windage tray, then I might as well go with a dry sump while I'm practically building a race motor. It sucks, I just want a fast car I don't have to pay for.

![]() Try the 514 cid crate motor from SVO. You cannot build the engine with the parts it comes with for the price they are selling it for about $7,800. Rated an honest 600 h.p. 600 lb/ft torque, all with 9.2:1 compression, runs on pump gas. Aluminum SVO heads, all ARP fasteners, solid roller cam, roller rockers, Motorsport V/C's, SVO single plane Hi-rise aluminum intake, timming cover, distributor, comes pre-run with oil in the pan, ignition timming set and oil pressure checked. The only down side is the oil pan, pump, pick-up suck big time (truck parts) need to up-grade those items first before running the engine.

![]() The 514 crate motors looked sweet, I just don't know about the stock block. If I'm gonna spend $8000 on a motor, I'd rather wait and spend a little more and have the SVO block w/cam I need and a better oiling system.

![]() NO need in spending that much for a motor unless you are a serious drag racer and then I hold ZERO faith in a mail order motor. Sorry, Just my opinon, and the svo heads are useless if you arent going to turn above 7000 rpm. Ive had extensive experince with the big blocks with both sets of heads in drag cars and in pullin trucks. Unless yo uare turnin above 7000 I highly frown on the SVo or Cobra Jet aluminum heads. A set of well ported DOVE heads with good valve train components ( Harland Sharp Roller Rockers, Probe Stud Girdle )will out perform the aluimnum heads under 700 rpm AND THAT IS MY GUARANTEE.

![]() We run factory 460 iron heads. DOVES are great and I agree Cobras are way big for the average bracket guy, street, forget it.
I don't know many that can lump down 8k on a motor, or why. I see those guys on those TV shows do it all the time. I have a wife, no can do. We have built some stout 460's for around 3k. Heck, you can get a complete set of DOVE heads around here for $500 or less.
