Default quieter performance exhaust

I am looking to replace my Flowmaster setup. While I know most anything is quieter than flowmaster, I don't know what to get.

I really don't want anything too loud but also need something with good value, as I am on a tight budget. What do you guys recommend and where can I get the best prices?

I will also replace my H-pipe and am thinking of going with an x-pipe, but I need cats also to pass inspection. These things are expensive, especially with cats. Who has the best deals?

If you want quiet performance and a good muff that will last, get the STEEDA "sleepers", right up your alley, plus they are stainless if i'm not mistaken. Dont get a a x or h pipe with cats, save your stock set up and change over at emmissions time, get an open x pipe from Bassani, very high quality, install a breeze.

Lightbulb Exhaust suggestion

The DynoMax Super Turbo's are a good, economical performance muffler. Under $50. (each). Available almost everywhere aftermarket performance exhaust is sold.

I bought mine @ Mustangs Unlimited.

Walker makes a low-restriction dual-cat replacement system. About $250.

Do they make a catback system with these(the sleepers), or do you have to buy all components separately?

Good idea about just bolting up the cats at emissions time. I don't know why I hadn't thought of that

Mr. 5.0 - As you can see, I decided to keep the car and just dump more money into it! Don't know if I could part with it, so I am looking at fixing the little things wrong then getting new wheels (still have the turbines) and some new seats .

By the way, I need more than just the mufflers. My tailpipes have rusted through in some spots, so I basically need an entire exhaust system. The flowmasters are still in great shape, but I am ready for a change.

Anybody want a set of Flows cheap??

Lightbulb Exhausted

Hethj7:

You can buy the complete DynoMax catback system (2 mufflers + tail pipes including polished ends) for about $250.
Flow tubes (pipes between exhaust & muffler) are cheap and should also be replaced.

Oh! Mr 5 0 and your Dynomax! you love those muff's don't ya! I can tell after reading many of your replies! I, like you, have "brand loyalty" too, and that is a 2 chamber flowmaster, but Dynomax does "dyno" a few pony's more I'll admit.

Reason I'm razzin' you is he mentioned "quietness" and Dynomax or Flowmaster are anything but quiet.

By the by, what is your best ever E.T. and MPH?

And something else I've always wondered about our "Administrator" is, MONEY BE DAMNED!, WHAT IS YOUR "IDEA" OF THE ULTIMATE MUSTANG, other than the one you have now of course.

Ooohhh, looks like we may have differing opinions here . I am wanting something quieter. A little louder than stock, but not like my flowmasters. That drone out on the highway is just getting old, although it does sound impressive when I get on the throttle.

One other question. X pipe or H pipe? Is the extra cost of the x really worth it? And, in the off road applications, do I still run my oxygen sensors?

Not really, just prefference.

yes an x is worth it, and you MUST run your 02's.

Okay, there have to be a few more opinions out there as far as brands go. If some think the dynomax may be loud, what do you suggest?

Exclamation Ultimate Mustang

gtsr515:

My '90 LX is near-stock. Best et was 13.8 @ 99.1 at Englishtown about five years ago, using an iced intake and other little tricks. Normal et is low 14's on the street. It's a daily driver with 117,000 miles. Still my baby.

All my Mustang info is on my User Ride page. Just type in 'Mr. 5.0 under 'Search by User Name'.

Never considered the 'Ultimate Mustang' but it would probably be very close to the upcoming 390 HP blown Cobra. 12-second capable, handle and stop like a 'Vette and look sharp in the process. A factory warranty is a nice option, too.
