Post radar detectors, who has one?

Just wondering if you guys/gals have detectors. What brand? Model?

Where did you mount it?

Is the Cobra RSA-800 "Trapshooter" a good brand and model? Can it be detected by the cops?

Ian

Ian, I have a Bel 970 and I love it.. it picks everything except for junk up.... It has paid for itself time and time again and I would recommend it to everyone! I mount it right in the lower middle of my windshield just above the wipers.

can you guys tell me about yours? Maybe its different out here w/ california cops. But I have a 9 band and laser uniden. It picks up stuff, but everytime I see a cop in radar location it never goes off. And I got a ticket when the cop SAID he used radar?

Hmm?

Hey guys, was down in St. Paul for summer nationals. Picked up a Bel $180 US. Its one of the best out there. 3 Radar bands, Laser, VG2, and safety warning system(ambulance, fire, construction).
Hey Ian you really from Ottawa 'cause you know their Illegal and it's confiscated with a $150.00 fine. Been there done that.
I won't trust the cobra model. I went to three electronic shops in Il. and the Bel was the best but most expensive.

Thanks for the replies.

I am from Ottawa, and so I will not be adding one to my ride. I cannot afford the chance

I have an old old OLD Uniden, and all it picks up is X, K, and Ka. Saved my arse a few times. I live out in BFE, so lasers aren't even used out here. I swear it's the most sensitive detector I've seen. I can pick up cops 2-3 miles away with it! Damn plug broke on it....hey, there's something I can do on my Spring Break!

IMO it doesn't really matter if you have laser or not... If that laser warning goes off, it just means you were just hit, so pull over!(or floor it!! )
Sky, That's weird.. you should be picking something up! Is your radar blocked from the front by tint or the windshield wipers? I remember seeing a post about a radar test with links... I'm gonna have to go look for it...

I found a new way to hide mine. I picked up a G-tech performance meter and it uses the same style cord, therefore they can't prove there was ever a radar detector. Cheaper models are not that reliable against anti-detection. Have had mine beeping in parking lot several times and Cop in their car parked near by (usually Beckers or Tim Hortons) they don't even pick it up. You get what u pay for!

They're legal in MN. I was there for the Car Craft Summer Nationals and bought one in IL. They're only illegal in Michigan and somewhere further west, can't remember, and Canada, even though, many people probably don't know this, a lot of radar detectors are made in Missisauga, Ontario, CANADA. One in particular is BEL.

I have a Bell, its about 5 years old and still works like the day I bought it. I had to call an 800 number in Montreal and I had it in 2 days.

Living close to Windsor, I see a lot of Americans coming across and having to hide theirs. The Unidens seem like they are alright, seen lots of them. I must admit I love the signs at the border and on the beginning of the 401, "Radar Detection Devices Forbidden." and the other ones about handguns, etc...

Radar detectors are legal here in MN, but if you do actually get busted and if the cop sees you have one, you may as well kiss the fine money goodbye. They'll give you a ticket gauranteed if they see a detector.

Radar Jammers are illegal here, though it'd be fun as hell to screw with the cops by using one.

Cool

Sky, he probably did use the radar. Alot of times they wait untill you are right up on them and then turn on the radar and hit ya with it. That way you can't detect them untill it's too late. That's most likely what that cop did. Waited till you were on him and then GOTCHA!
