Question Ready to change timing chain..-have question

I'm ready to install the FRPP multi- indexed timing chain and the instruction says that if I have an OEM roller chain then replace the thrust plate and remove the c-shaped spacer on the front of the camshaft....I was looking in the chilton's manual and it doesn't mention anything about the spacer, anywhere. Is a spacer there?
