Real deal on the AL. flywheel?
 

Im going to throw another fms clutch in my car after i get my tax return, also been really looking into the aluminum flywheels, pretty pricey but it seems everyone i have talked to, or researched here and other sites, say they are happy, and as far as the launch, you just leave a little harder than you would with an iron one, and the rev's dont really drop.
Most people that said the flywheel hurt the launch, really never owned an aluminum fw?
Im trying to stay in the game since all my racing buddies have nos, vortech's ect.. so i was going to buy some nos, but would rather spend cash removing rotating mass and removing drivetrain stress..... So any opinion's welcome before i blow 400$

Everything is not always what its cracked up to be.

"Everyone always said get a custom cam and ditch that POS E303 cam."

I spent $325.00 on a custom cam, $100.00 to get it dialed in, $400.00 getting my heads set up for the .566 lift monster.

AND

I ran exactly the F-ucking same. Less low end and more top end equaled the same ET at more mph.

My point being.....When it comes to big chunks of your money there is only one opinion you should care about.

yea, well my mind was already pretty much made up, I was hoping someone would tell me they ran just as good with a billet steel one (since they are cheaper than al.) :)
but your right, only my opinion should matter, however there is quite a few opinions I respect here, and I cant say that about some other stang sites.....

Well worst case scenerio.

You run the same and people tell you that you need more gear to take advantage of the aluminum flywheel and you do it. You run the same again and people tell you that you need more RPM to take advantage of the light weight flywheel and lower gearing and you do it. In the end you will have spent 3 grand to see a 1 tenth gain from the flywheel.

Surely it cant go that bad. :D

You sound kind of angry:), no problem though, like i said, i respect some opinions here, yours being one of them.
So i found one for 350$, makes sense to me that it will free up horsepower, my car is light, with enough gear imo, shouldnt kill my launch too bad, I'll have it on in a couple months, and i'll re-post about it, gotta 101 things to do everyday with my family, work ect.. slowly but surely.

I really like mine, and my 60ft didn't suffer (mid 1.4s). I launch from 6,000-7,000 (depending on the track) to make up for any "lowend loss"

Yea I was launching at 4500-5k, anything more shock's the slicks, and they spin, being small 26x8.5's.
So with the new FW, im thinking i'll come outta the hole about 5500.

fiveohpatrol, did you have to get a dowel kit for the flywheel?

Dark, I will indeed be posting a follow up, if i run the same i'll be happy knowing some stress off the drivetrain. I wonder how you were talked into ditching the e-cam? I hope i wasnt in any threads telling you to ditch the e-cam, I always did talk highly about custom grinds, but only in stroker, and/or poweradder combos, seems the guys at ford knew how to draw up some specs in the alpahbet cams, at least for 302's.

Well there were a few benifits from the custom cam.

It idles way better and the car is an LS1 killer from a roll. :D

I am about to buy an 11 to 1 308 short block and hope to see some 11's. :cool:

Well heck, that sounds like something to keep us posted about dark, :) and im talking about a round piece of aluminum lol, and your ls1 killin!
And ls1 killing from roll speeds is what im talkin bout:D
heh, I even have my car up on jackstands cuz im so excited to do something different, I'll take my time, ssince I have to throw in some motor mounts, rear main seal, and input bearing, so it'll take some time. later on men.
