65 rear end

I just bought a 65 fastback and i did a little reserch on it , and the rearend tage #'s are from a 67. My question is is this possible. I thought the 67 were alot wider than the 65.The rearend tage is WCZ-VI, i think it should be WCZ-E any help would be great

It could be that they just used the third memember because from what I know is that in fact 67' rear ends are wider.

You think that it is a 65 housing with a 67 chuck? also any idea what are the widest tires i can run with out rubing?

I use P225, not superwide at all but it fills out the wheelwell pretty good. And I haven't had a problem with rubbing at all.

65-66 "9" inch housing tubes get real small at the leaf spring,67 and up do not. Kinda necked down a bit.

We ran a 600+ HP motor and actually twisted the housing at the leaf on old 66 housing.

It all depends on what rim size you want to use if you want to use a 14" I'd say 235 60's are the biggest 245's maybe??? As for 15"s it would need to be 225 60's. ummm for 16"s 225 50's. Last but not least 17"s 235 45's

I am not a tire expert but 17" w/ 235-45's?? Isn't that a bit wide for the tire height? I have 14" with 225-60's and when my shocks were shot I would bottom-out on hard bumps and rub. So I know the clearance isn't that tremendous. I could be totally wrong but a 235 seems too wide to me. I understand the plus-sizing effect of 14"-60,15"-60,16"-50, etc., but a 235, even with a 45 series tire, is going to be darn wide up top of the well. I could be totally wrong, but that seemed pretty big too me. Somebody have that on their car??

The '67 and later 8" center chunks, specifically, had more ribbing for increased strength. It's not a bad idea to use a later center section.

The '67 is 2 inched wider than the '64-'66.

No offense taken POWER and I understand why you would doubt that they would fit but a 17x8 rim with 235 45's fits fine. Check out www.mustangsplus.com they offer them and recomend that size also.

On my '66 coupe, lowered 1" front and rear, I run 235/60/15's BFG TA's on the back with 215/60/15's on the front. All I had to do on the back is grind off those little tabs from the wheelhouse lips. A tight fit but no rubbing with only a little massage. Steel rims 6 1/2" rear and 6" front. That's 15's with 4 1/2" bolt circles from little local tire shops. Works well for me for not too much $$$.

hmm....maybe its about time for me to do an upgrade.......

I need new rims anyway.....I'm running 14" which don't work with the brake conversion I want to do. So another good excuse to upgrade....
