Question Rear end size

I have an 86 GT with AOD and am looking into 3:73 for it. How do I know what size the rear is?

I think you're asking whether you have an 8.8", 7.5" or possibly a 9" rear end

I thought the 86 cars had the 8.8", but I'm not sure I know the 87 GT's+ did. The V6's had the 7.5".

Guess we'll have to have an expert come in on this one.

8.8 rear has flat sides on the cover, the 7.5 rear has a round cover, the 9" is not found in the fox body unless someone has put it in, and it has a removable center section.

I have a write up on the differences on my sight. www.flemworld.com. Look under How To's>>85 How To's and then "7.5 and 8.8 Differences"

If you look at the diff. pan the 7.5" will be wider than it is tall. A 8.8" will be taller than it is wide.
