I don't know about yours but on my C-4 it's on the driver's side.
There is a bracket with a small bolt through it that holds the speedo gear in the tranny. Take that bolt off and the gear and cable will slide out of the tranny. The gear is only held on the cable with a small clip. Just slide it off and the gear comes off.
