Default Rev limiter or VSS, what is causing this problem!!!

With 3.73s on my car and my chip tuned for them I was able to go to 6000rpms without hitting the rev limiter, no problem.

Now I have 4.10s on, my chip is still tuned for 3.73s and the car is acting like it hits a rev limiter at 5400rpms.

How is this possible. Could this be a VSS problem. My speedo is off by possibly 15mph. I'm getting the speedo fixed today.

This is a 94 GT Convert w/aode. You can see all my mods in the sig.

Please give me some ideas cause I don't have any.

Thanks,

Tony

i didnt think the 5.0liters had a VSS sensor cause isnt that the one that mounts near the tire to tell the speed. its gotta be your chip!

I've heard from several mechanics and other members on a few boards that there is a VSS and it's possible that the speedo being off could cause this problem.

The chip could be the problem too though. But I don't know how the rev limiter setting could have lowered on it's own because I use to be able to take it up to 6000rpms but can only to to 5400 now. I guess anything's possible though.

Thanks,

Tony

Yep, its the VSS. The VSS is actually integral with the speedometer cable, not wheel mounted. I think you're confusing that with the ABS sensor. You'll need to have your chip reprogrammed for the gear change. You could get a Bauminator which I believe gives you control over the gearing input so that you won't have to have the chip reprogrammed every time you change gears.

The speedo should be working later today...

I won't be able to get the chip reburned for probably a month so I'm hoping that fixing the speedo made it at least a little better.

thanks,

Tony

I got the speedo corrected today and it didn't help any. I guess I have to re-schedule time with the tuner and have the shift points and rev limiter checked. This is driving me crazy.

Could it just be that my stock tach is way off???

My 10/11/03 dyno printout shows peak power at 5800rpms. I can only get to 5400rpms when driving on the street.
