Richmond Solid Pinion Spacer - Any Good???
Anyone use the Richmond solid spacer instead of the standard crushsleeve? I'm swapping gears between tomorrow night/thursday and figured if they were any good it would be a little easier to set up, especially without a shop and a ton of tools/lift. Do I buy the one with or without shims (both are available, but I assume I need the one with shims). This is for a FRPP 3.73 ring & Pinion set.

just had my 9" set up with a solid spacer and shims. Not sure what the advantages are. Just what my father in law prefers over a crush sleeve. Will ask him..

I figure it would be a little more acurate, plus the drag on the pinion bearings wouldn't become less after a while since it doesn't crush. It's only $10, I think I'm gonna give it a try.

Get the one with the shims. You will use the spacer, and then add shims until you get the right preload. If you get the one without the shims you will have to machine the spacer to the right thickness. The main advantage is not having use a huge breaker bar to crush the sleeve in order to get the right preload. I had to use a solid spacer on mine. As hard as I was hitting it, the crush sleeve was wasnt holding.
