Post Rotor Replacement

My 91 is doing the front end shimmy when braking. I bought the car 2 months ago. I am almost positve it's warped rotors. Anyway, I am of the mindset of doinging it right the first time. I don't plan on auto-Xing so I don't need brembo or cobra brakes. I am looking at the slotted rotors. I see Summit sells one and others are for sale in the mags (Power Slot). Any experience? Anyone... Bueller... Bueller...
Thanks,
Brian

Just about every place that sells rotors for Mustangs sells a slotted or drilled rotor option. Even JC Whitney sells them for gawd sakes. Your rotors aren't going to make a big difference in stopping power anyhow (one companies slotted rotors probably don't differ too much from another's)...it's all about the pads. Find some good Hawk pads or something comparable and you should be happy. Stainless steel lines and caliper bushings will be a big help too.

My Concern was more about longevity. I am scared to buy a rotor at most parts stores (deal with the crap I am now) and for what Ford probably wants ( I have not checked yet) I can get slotted ones. Unless anyone knows of a good brand to buy or a place to get non slotted rotors. I have owned many cars that wobble after a while due to warped rotors. IT'S TIME TO STOP THE MADNESS!!! (just thought I would add that for dramatic effects).
Thanks,
Brian

The problem you'll face with slotted rotors and cross drilled rotors is that they can't be turned at all. If they warp or are scored, they're done unless you tolerate bad brakes, which is what you're trying to avoid. For street use you might as well just get regular rotors with good calipers, brake lines and good fluid (synthetic is even better). You're not going to be heating the brakes up enough to make them fade enough to effect performance with a good system (unless you drive REALLY HARD like an autocrosser). I'd go with solid rotors and save the money to go towards braided brake lines, stronger calipers, and synthetic fluid, etc. Just my $.02, good luck!

Auto Zone sells rotors for $40.99 each with a 2 year warranty. I have had good luck with their brake parts in my daily driven cars. The Performance friction pads are 30.99, and are carbon metallic. I used those on my lumina and they stoppped great. They list "Z rated" pads at $49.99 special order, dunno anything about those.
