Was there Saleens in 1987? If so how many were made and what's the difference between those and the regular lx's? THanks

Dang, I'm not even sure... I know there was a McLaren through 1988 I think. Don't know when Saleen made his debut, 1989?

I know nothing about the McLaren, the older Fox Saleens are basically a stock 5.0, appearance, and suspension.

Ya, he was building them in 87. I rembember because I was still in high school when I saw my first Saleen and wanted it very badly.

From what I remember the only differece was it had the Flofit seats, a strut tower brace, and a few other minor mods. The motor was bone stock.
Actually, I read somewhere that Steve Saleen was acutully making a few of his first cars back in 84.
See if you can find a Saleen message board somewhere. Most of the owners are die hard and can tell you what you need to know.

Skyman will probably be able to verify some stuff for you, he's on here all the time late at night.

He's got a Foxbody Saleen, so he should know a heck of a lot more about them than most.

BTW, I looked at the car in the link. It looks pretty ragged out. I don't know if I'd pay that kinda money for it. Missing the front valance, paint's shot, 176k miles, the shifter boot is shot. No offense but it's not in the greatest of shape.

I offered him 2,300, you think I should get it or what? I went and looked at it last night. No dents and the tranny and rearend are in good condition. I am just looking for a solid body and it has it. Think I could get one cheaper somewhere else? Thanks

Actually, I believe the first one built was '84.

Check the front bumper for a number 53, manufacture plate on firewall under hood, Saleen plaque on console by shifter - these will help determine if it's legit - you can also call Saleen and verify the VIN and etc.

If it is a Saleen and you get it for that price - you stole it!!! You can also checkout --> http://www.performanceautosport.com <-- for what some sell for.

The cheapest one I've seen has been $9,500.

After looking at the pics of it and reading more info on the car - it looks like it's going to take some $$$ to get it in good shape. The positive is that you'll be getting a 5 lug 4 wheel disc setup - other than that I'll have to recant what I posted above - you're getting what you paid for with a few bucks off. Between the broken seats, missing rims, missing front air dam, toasted paint, and who knows for the engine - you just might be spending a whole lot to get it back to a healthy state. But that can be part of the fun...and you also got a good base to start your mods....enjoy

Oh I know it will take some work, but I think I got a decent deal. the body is in good shape, as is the tranny and rearend. I am putting a new 347 stroker in it. I have been looking for a body. It's hard to find one in good shape. I look forward to working on it though. Thanks for your feedback it's really appreciated.

By the way, what heads and cam do you prefer??? thanks again

Well, goin with the 347 I would have one custom made if you can. If not get the X cam. My B is way to small for a 347 but couldnt afford a custom at the time.. It will be replaced this winter.

Well, the thing is that my father owns a machine shop so he built it himself. But the internals are all forged. I only paid like 319 for Eagle rods. around 500 for Ross pistons. Only 260 for Eagle Forged crank. If you are goin to build it yourself I can give you some info on who sells what the cheapest and such.. If money allows.. Please get a good intake. If I had to redue it I would only have bought a new Trick Flow intake to begin with. Have a custom cam made for your motor. Get a mass air meter..Bigger Throttle body. Good set of heads...I have a hell of a time keeping my motor cool too. So you will prob need a 3core radiator. 160 thermostat or gut out your old one(I gutted mine out).

Most shops will bore the block , dip it, put all new freeze plugs in for around 150. So in the block you could look close to 1100-1500 depending on how much you get the crank for..Another thing to watch for is on about 50% of the 347 strokers is that when you install the crank and start hooking up the rods. When you turn the crank the rod caps will hit the bottom of the cylinder wall. There is a lip that comes down from the bottom of the cylinder wall about 1/2 inch. Just have the shop chop that excess off to begin with. I had to tear mine all the way back down and cut and redip my damn motor. Good Luck

Well, I went and got it lastnight. It's a hooptie now, but with a little work I think it's a pretty nice stang again. Do you think it will be worth it to have it stroked, or what? Maybe a blower??? I don't know what to do. Thanks
