Exclamation HELP! Newbie 95-96 GT questions

Potential first time Mustang owner with some pre-purchase questions. I am not that familiar with the Mustang and have some basic questions between the 95 pushrod and 96 4.6 cars. I do not intend to do a great deal of modification to the car I buy.

So, with that said, is either engine more preferable from a long life or ease of modification point of view? I would assume the 95 car would be cheaper to modify because it has been around longer, but the 4.6 has been around now for some time as well, although much less time.

Second, is there any reason why a 96-97 car might be preferable over a 95 as far as equipment or some other reason, or aside from the engine are they really the same?

Thanks,

Ron Brooks

5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 Get the 95, the 5.0 is faster and cheaper to work on.

I have a 95. It is great. Stock I think that they have more bottom end power and therefore are a little more fun to drive without mods. Should you decide to mod your car, there are a billion cheap aftermarket parts out there.

That being said, I don't want to take anything away from the 96-98 4.6L's. They are nice cars, and can run strong. It is just that they require a fair bit more cash to hotrod.

I recommend that you drive both (if you can). Pick the car that suits your budget, driving style, and future plans.

Hope that helps.

Oh and one more thing, I LOVE the dash clock on the 95. It was removed in the 4.6L cars.

the 96-98 has conciderably less power, as it was before ford understood how to use the smaller 4.6l. with the newer heads, its just fine. if you want more power, get a 94-95, i like their body better too.

Let me add to the chorus for the '95 Mustang.

Not only cheaper to buy, but as stated in prior posts, the trusty 5.0 engine is a very good piece in stock form and very responsive to mods, which are plentiful and reasonable, should you want to go that route.

The later models have some nice features (interiors are improved, as is suspension) and the 4.6 is O.K., but simply not up to the performance of the 5.0. 4.6 parts are also generally more expensive.

Plus the '95's have the cool dash clock!

Definitely the 95...stock has much more torque than a stock 96-98 4.6
