Default Serpentine belt on older 302

I've been trying to put a serpentine belt on the 302 [347] that I'm building for my 68 Cougar. Boy, what a PIA !!!!

I went to wrecking yard and got everything off the front of a 93 Tbird 302. All the brkts, pulleys and units [alt.,p/s,A/C,pulley,tensioner, etc] Put it on engine and still have problems. The timing cover is different. Need to get a 93 Tbird timing cover, I guess.

Oh, well off to FORD Monday and see what I can get.

Anyone else do this???

I run a serpentine belt on all my old stuff. Never had to change a timing cover for that reason though.

What "problems" did you run into that lead to changing the timing cover?

Don't forget about a late model reverse rotation water pump!

Long story short. When to "Junk" yard and got all the front off of a 93 TBird LX, 5.0 V-8. Two brkts. and all the pulleys and tensioner.

Installed them on my engine, it is on a stand, and also HAD a timing cover, without fuel pump from a 90 E250. The pump turns backward on the E250. When I ordered a water pump for the 93 Tbird it won't fit the timing cover....like it needs to be deeper. The impeller sticks out too far and doesn't fit into the housing. Do you get what I mean?? It's like the timing housing needs to have deeper mounting, for the water pump, to allow the water pump impeller to fit into it???? I'm going to order a water pump for the 90 front timing cover I have, since it is made to turn backwards too. Then I have to check to make sure that it lines up with all the other stuff.

FYI....I own and run an auto repair garage and we do this all day. I'm not a backyard
"want to be". Maybe I'm missing something here......I don't know. If the van pump doesn't do the trick, I'm back at the "yard" and try and get a 93 front timing cover I guess.

What do you run?? I tried to run an 88 5.0 setup but couldn't find all the brkts and the two I was missing are no longer offered by FORD !!!!!!

Later....

I just stick with stang stuff, just to keep it simple in my head, and not confuse myself. Make sense?

I think if you get the other water pump, you'll be good to go. Maybe the van had the HD cooling, and came with a bigger pump?

Most of the pumps you find are going to have the correct mounting points for the brackets, I think I know ZACKLY where you're talking about, been there! Try the water pump first bro!
