Default Help In Getting The Most Hp From My Current Setup

Ok, guys. It's been 2 weeks and about 500 miles later.

My car runs hard, but I know I can get more out of it WITH THE SETUP I HAVE NOW.
I have been playing with it and I get good power sometimes and lower power when I play with it more.

I need tricks and suggestions of what I can do NOW with the setup I have.
I know you will advice me to update some parts but right now I cant.
What more can I do with my current setup to get the MAX POWER out of it

What do I set the fuel pressure to?
TPS?
Timing....I LIKE TOTAL WITH CHIP OUT


REMEMBER: I like to know what I can do with the setup I have now. I can NOT change anything now like injectors and MAss air, but soon will. But on MOTOR, WHAT tunning, Fuel Pressure, Total timing ETC should I put it at.
And any tricks and suggestions are welcome.

Are you running total timing to try and get more lowend power with those 3.08 gears? It probably makes your car pretty hard to start doesnt it?

I would run 16-17 degree intial with the spout in, and about 40-45psi fuel pressure. Every car is different so you have to play with it.

You may want to try some 1.7 rockers on that stock cam too.

The cam is not stock, its a Crane Cams 2040 Reground By Crawford Performance

My car also turns on perfect in the morning and at anytime

Oh ok... Best thing is to get to the track and start gettin some numbers. Thats the best place to tune.

I agree with Skyman, go to the track armed with a timing light and fuel pressure gauge and start tuning. Make a run with the setup that "feels" best, then adjust the timing from there. Remember this, as you bump the timing, you normally lean out the mixture a little, so once you get the timing set, start adding (or possibly removing) fuel pressure. Good luck...

P.S.-If you are lucky enough to get a LOT of runs in, tune it with timing and fuel pressure and after you think you have it maxed, try different shift points.

1) Cut the post out of the stock MAF and remove the screen. That's free.

2) Take those heads off and get out the die grinder. There's all kinds of literature about how to port heads. I'm not familiar with the TFS heads, but I am familiar with the BBK shorties. I sent them back because they were much smaller than the exhaust ports on my heads. Settled with Hooker Super Comps because 90% of the weld was around the outside of the tube. I was able to grind an almost perfect match to my exhaust ports. Maybe BBKs match TFSs perfectly, I have no idea.

I've never really understood 'total timing'. I'm set at 18 degrees with the spout out. I've got a 160 T-stat, a Flexalite fan controller, a FlowKooler H2O pump and a Griffin radiator. I cruise around 180 and run 190-200 when I'm pounding it. The car begins to get very unhappy if it starts to run much hotter than that though. I think the cause of this is the excessive timing. Just a thought.


What sparkplugs are you using and what's the gap on them? I'm around 10.2:1 compression and I originally went with OEM specs. Autolite 25 @ .052-.058" gap (for 94/95). Took them out and put in 24s @ .045" gap. I would've never believed it could make so much difference had I not done it myself.

Just my thoughts and experiences.

One thing to keep an eye on is your stock #19 injectors. From your lists of mods, you are most likely going to need bigger injectors. When you go to the track to test, I would start with raising the fuel pressure first. Just my 2 cent.
