She finally died!!

Well, bigred finally kicked the bucket(see thread 'major problems'). I was on my way home from work on wed. and the RPM's were bouncing between about 1000 and 2700 at about 68mph, and the car was surging with every bounce of the RPM's. If none of you are from southeast texas, we have one of the largest suspension bridges in the U.S. Well it just so happened I had to cross that bridge to get home. By the time I made it to the top, I was doing about 35 mph, RPM's still bouncing. As soon as I exited the freeway, I heard a really loud pop and it died. The pop wasn't quite as deep sounding as a backfire, it almost sounded like a pistol shot. When I restarted it back up, if you could say that, the engine was idling at about 150 RPM's. Sounds crazy, but it happened. So I walk home and get my truck, which I fixed the day before, and go back to get the car. When I got to the car, I cranked it back up. The RPM's were still going crazy. I made the u-turn into my neighborhood and it popped again, only this time it did it 3 of 4 random times before it died again. Again, it would crank, but the rpm's would stay at around 150. I'm not in any hurry or financial position to fix it, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm sorry, but I don't remember your post. I went back 5 days, and didn't see it, either. If you could summarize what it's done, what you've done, and what tests you've done, and their results, it would be much easier.

Take care,
~Chris
