Shifters and Clutches........ ???????????????
im looking into maybe getting a new shifter. right now i have the stock one that is about the size of the empire state building.... is there that much of a difference? ive heard alot about noise and vibration transfer from the tranny up through the shifter, but steeda claims thiers doesnt do that. if i got one, it would prolly be the Tri-Ax. i may also be looking into a new clutch too unless adjusting my present clutch will make shifting any easier. the clutch is still fairly new as far as i know, and its like pushing your foot into the ground its so stiff. anyone????????

Yes, there is a noticable difference when you replace the factory shifter with an afrtermarket shifter. I have the PRO 5.0 and love it, as most everyone does but there is a little transmission noise transfer, which I don't mind a bit.
Sometimes this is due to loose transmission mounts or just a worn transmission that the factory rubber bushings help quiet. I've heard a lot of good things about the TRI-AX shifter and would bet that it's a good piece based on what I've seen posted about it here, so that's a distinct possibility, especially if quiet operation is important to you. Either way, anything is better than the factory shifter - as everyone with an aftermarket piece will tell you. |
Just put in a B&M Ripper today...works great, but you can't go wrong with any of them.

Yeah the stock clutch and the cheap replacements have very stiff pedals and poor clamping power. If you're ever going to run slicks you'll need to upgrade that clutch. The centerforce dual friction kevlar is great and the pedal effort is a lot lighter.

I have the Pro 5.0 and love it. The tranny noise I consider a bonus because it let me know my tranny was on the way out.
I have the King Cobra clutch and the pedal feel is very light. Also it has a distinct point where it grabs. My car will get posi in 3rd gear with it. ------------------ Too much to list. I have a B&M and it requires a little force to change gears, but I like it a lot, even though I have nothing to compare it to. I dont hear any noticable noise from the T-5. My clutch pedal is really hard too like you described, probobly because it is still the stock setup.

I must say, after going through many clutches in my old '87 LX, i like the Centerforce Dual Friction the best, great clamping power, and the clutch outlasted the transmission!!
