Post shifting to reverse

Hi all,

I noticed that when I put mu car in reverse, it sounds like the gears aren't meshing (ike i'm not stepping on the clutch). I have to put pressure on the shifter before the car will go into reverse. Any idea's?

I always just put into 5th then reverse, I believe 5th and reverse are the same synchros (?) Not sure there, just what I heard, but it always works, up to 5th then down to reverse.

Shifting into reverse with a T-5 always requires a shift to fifth or even third, to avoid 'The Clash'[.
This is a problem inherent in the T-5.

My '90 LX did this from the very first time I shifted into reverse, as I prepared to drive it off the dealers lot in March of 1990.
It had 3 miles on it. The dealer mechanic told me "They all do that" (which I didn't believe at the time) and then my best friend, an auto shop owner who had a '88 LX, told me the same thing. They were both right. Shift into fifth, then reverse.

My 90 does that also! I hate it! You have to shift to 5th then reverse or sometimes I have to try some of the other gears. If 5th does not work 1st works for me. Sometimes I just put it in reverse before I start the car.

Well my t-5 is about to blow , would you guys believe a reputable performance shop, jpumkin may know,(tx jam) told me my reverse synchro was almost gone, and in bad shape, my tranny makes a noise but shifts fine, and just does the WELL KNOWN slight grind to reverse, unless you do the above directions, youd think these guys would know their stuff.

Thing is my t-5 makes a clicking noise in every gear, slightly in 4th, but shifts bada$$ i dont understand?? probaly about to go way shouth huh?

Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I understand reverse doesn't have a syncro, thats why if you have it in netrual and rev it up anything past idle thne try to slide it in reverse it will grind correct?
