Like 84 said, it depends on your budget. I run aftermarket stuff in my stock shortblock with a stock crank, a girdle, while running a 14 PSI ATI and have had no problems.
If you have the means of rebuilding, go for it. You won't need any real trick parts. The stock block and crank will work with your application assuming they're in good shape.
In the end it might be cheaper to buy an assembled shortblock from a good engine builder if you don't know much about assembly. So again, I'll agree with 84 on the DSS suggestion.
