![]() Apparently my computer is having trouble controlling the idle as I am getting a "1-2" code when in KOER. This is confusing because, to me, the idle and throttle response seem fine. I've read in the Articles Section that this can be due to coking. What is the proper way to clean the throttle body? I've tried spraying a ridiculous amount of throttle body cleaner AND carb cleaner into the T/B, but that didn't seem to help.
For reference: 1989 Mustang 5.0 AOD 145,000 miles TPS: 0.9 V Idle: approx. 700 rpm Thanks, Evil Joe |

![]() well, throttle body cleaner is good, Carb cleaner is bad and could have hurt the oxygen sensors when burned off. I would try reseting the ECM and run the tests again.

![]() I guess I was thinking more along the lines of removing the T/B completely and soaking it in toluene or dichloromethane overnight.
Any thoughts? |

![]() you need a special cleaner specificaly for a ford because theres teflon in the throttlebody and most cleaners damage the coating causing a checkengine light not nessarly a prob just a light

![]() I agree with special cleaners, I never seen one for ford specific but carb cleaner is just for carbs not for TB EFI cars.. It harms sensors and could be causing your problems

![]() im a diag tech one of the first things i learned about ford tb is no cleaner as of late there are a few special companys that make cleaners for fords but as most know the first time you remove your air tube theres a sticker that says do not clean throttlebody may damage ive actualy had to replace throttlebodys because new techs did fuel sys cleans which isnt a prob if its right for a ford or you dont use throttle plate cleaner
