Should I stop being a pansy and run on the slicks?
I was not going to run on my ET Streets when the track opens up due to fear of blowing the stock 100k T-5 in half. If I do, I prolly wont have the money to fix it till the following winter. I have some buddies who have gone high 10's on their T-5's and they are telling me to go for it. What you think?

I have always felt if you are afraid to break something, then no sense in taking it to the track. Either go all the way or don't go at all. Of course if its your daily driver, and you count on it to get you to and from work/school everyday, then I wouldn't, but if you have another car, its definately time to bolt on the slicks and have at it. If not, I'll take them off your hands cause I need a set!!

Go auto. A 10 second automatic turbo car. puts less of a shock initially on the launch and less wear and tear on a tranny and rear then a 12 second 5 speed car on slicks.
Anyways you cant launch with any built up boost so the launch shouldnt be much worse now then before the turbo.

no
I wouldn't go auto. Nothing beats driving a built Mustang with a stick. Plus...that's a big 'ol project. Keep the 5 speed man...and definitely hit up the tracks on slicks.
I've been drag racing my car at the track, on slicks for years now. Launching at 6K on motor...5K on the juice. My T5 was rebuilt about 5 years ago and hasn't given me any problems. I say run the slicks for sure. |

Yeah but with a turbo car you want an auto with a stall so you can build boost for the launch.

Ackbar- I am lucky enough to have 4 really fast turbo stangs race at the same track I do.
One is a tubo SVO 4 banger that runs low 9's in the 1/4 with anAUTO! One is a 90 GT with a 347 and a turbo that goes high 9's with an AUTO! a guy has a 90 LX with a motor built by mike murilllo and a turbo that makes 1600 HP and he runs high 8's with an AUTO! Last but not least there is a guy with a turbo charged 03 mach 1 he ran an 11.8 @116mph with a turbo on the stock engine with 8 psi. His car was in MM & FF 2 months ago. Guess what he is going AUTO! I predict you will have an auto and a transbrake in the near future. You would run way quicker being able to spool up before the launch and the boost wont drop between shifts with an auto.

Nope, 12.00@135 for me <------ Future Goal
12.00@125 <----- This years goal My brothers car goes 9.65@138 with a C-4 (His is a turbo 347). TRUST ME, I know it would be faster with a auto, but it would not be as much fun

Besides, with a auto, I could not race mustang driver 2 in his 0-150 match
Well, I guess I could, I would just do it in 1/4 mi instead of three....

With the right tuning hardware you can make boost off the line with a stick.
Dont underestimate the fun factor of driving an auto with a stall convertor on the street. Andy

Slicks rule, I made about 10 passes on slicks with my now departed mustang, although it wasn't nearly as fast as yours. Any car i have in the future will get slicks when i go to the track.

hmmm.. you could probably sell the stick for about what a c4 would cost you. A built AOD is an expensive proposition, I know first hand. A stick is fun but you are going to end up with an auto in the end, may as well do it now and save some money.

Good thread.
Yea im a 5 spd guy myself, if i went auto, it wouldnt be as fun imo. one thing you guys didnt mention, was the way slicks will/could burn the clutch, i been leaving at 5k on slicks for years now, not as often though since i use my car daily, also my car isnt making the power some of your turbo/blower stangs are, but my rearend probaly has 200+k on it, no problems yet, but im expecting to snap one soon, usually my king kobra clutch starts stankin something fierce on a 5k launch now a days....good luck, and nothing looks cooler imo then a stang yankin the tires on slicks!!

I can understand the auto argument, I love my auto. But, I think he can make the stick work for his set-up and they are a lot of fun to drive.
Not sure on the slicks, that would mean the chance of not getting to drive ur car for the summer.

Im a little worried about the clutch. It is a 6yr old Centerforce. If it goes, Everybody on Turbomustangs likes there SPEC stage 3. Seems to hold up very well for most of them. I think that is what Ill use..... If mine goes.... When mine goes
