Sorry Dude,

I believe you are in over your head. The castings are different, completely different. You stang has Upper and lower control arms the Explore doesn't. That alone would make the deal extremely difficult unless you are a Master welder and could fab up all the brakets and some how manage to fit them properly.
While this isn't impossible, your Dad is headed down the right path, just make sure the gearing is the same front and rear and he should be ok.
