It depends what you mean by "HIGH" performance. A 8 or 9 second strip only terror or a 12 sec daily driver?
Many strip/street driven Mustangs have had great success with a properly built C4. I, on the other hand, just love rowing through the gears.
A TKO and 3550 are very similar. I think the TKO has more splines on the shaft, but I think that's about it. 3550 is rated at 400 ft. lbs. The T5's vary on model (T5Z, Worldclass, etc). But, I think they go up to 350 ft. lbs.
You could always have it proshifted, but that may present some driveability issues for a daily driver.
