well if your car wont make power above 5000 then shift between 5000 and 5100, i tried this on a friend's car with an intake/cam with ported stock heads and ran a few tenths faster shifting at 5000, you really do need heads though, i'd put the stock cam back in until you do get some heads, it will probably benefit you
