Arrow T5 repair quote - you're not going to believe this!

My buddy, Mike and I ripped out my T5 a couple nights ago so that I could install a new King Cobra clutch kit and Fidanza Aluminum flywheel. While we had the tranny out of the car, I thought I might as well have it looked at to see what kind of condition it was in. (Note, I have had no real problems with this factory original T5 other than a few drops of fluid whenever I really beat on it.)

So yesterday, I drop it off at the same place that did my 3.55 gear installation (about 4 years ago). The head guy is still there! Cool, I thought. I proceed to tell him why I've brought it in, how it is driving just fine, but just wanted to know the condition. He said for $60 he would go through it and call me later.

Six hours later, the guy calls me and tells me that the syncros (sp?) are about shot and that I really should put in new ones. (No real shocker to me). He proceeds to tell me that a new set of syncros with install will "run you about $1,000." WHAT!!!??!? So, I tell him that I could buy a whole new T5 for that much, for which he replies: "Son, a new WC T5 would set you back $1,400."

At this point I am both pissed and just upset about the whole thing. I instruct him to button up my T5 and that I will pick it up tomorrow. No way was I going to pay a grand for this syncro rebuild!

Now, what should I do??? I figure I've got the following options:

1) Purchase a T5Z
2) Purchase a 3550HD
3) Purchase a TKO-2

What do you guys think? (BTW, will the TKO work with the 10.5 clutch?)

All replies appreciated!!!
E
