It'll cost you about 7 bucks and about 20 minutes of easy work and half that is getting the car up on the jackstands. Any Ford house should have what you need. and thier price is the same. . about 7 dollars.
About 3/4 of the way down the left (driver) side of the transmission is a cable about 1/2 inch in diameter that goes into the transmission tail housing at a 45 degree angle. I'm assuming you have a t5. Auto's are pretty much the same. The cable is about where the transmission crossmember sits and is actually above it enough that it sometimes makes it tough to get hold of. Patience and lots of tugging and it'll come out. There should be a horseshoe shaped clip that goes halfway around the cable's metal end piece. Looks and acts like a distributor hold down clamp. It is held in place by a small bolt that goes into the tailhousing just behind the cable. I think it's a 10 mm head. Remove the bolt, pull the clip back and it will fall off in your hand. Pull the cable end piece out of the transmission and the gear you need to change is on the end of this cable. Pull it off and push on the new one and reverse the procedure to reinstall it.
