Jack up the back end and support it with jack stands.
Put the tranny in neutral.
mark the u-joint and the pinion with white-out, so the marks line up.
Put a white mark on the inside of the drivers sdie rear tire.
By hand, turn the driveshaft until the mark on the tire goes around one time. Count the number of times the mark on the u-joint passed the mark on the pinion. That is your gear ratio.
For example, if the driveshaft turned just over three times to make the tire do 1 full turn, then you've got 3.08:1 gears. If it doesn't quite go 3 times, you've got 2.73's, etc. The gear ratio is how many times the driveshaft turns for one turn of the tire.
