The popping sound you here is the teeth on the stock quadrant stripping out.
The adjustable cables suck. What has happened is the rubber sleeve on the outside on the cable has wadded up and has froze up the cable.
Get a firewall adjuster and aluminum clutch quadrant and stay away from adjustable cables.
Same thing happened to me.
