I have several buddies with late '80s 5.0s that have over 150K miles and they still run strong and smooth and don't even use that much extra oil.
I have owned 3 different 5.0 Stangs - an 84 LX that I bought with 80K miles, an 87 LX with 50K and NOS, and a 79 Pace Car with 160K and driven them a total of about 50K miles. The only time I ever broke down was when I blew a radiator hose, which isn't Ford's fault anyway of course.
If you are smart with a small block Ford and don't make any big mistakes under boost or while spraying, you will have a good running machine for a long time.
