Holley makes a regulator to use the in tank pump with a carburetor. I don't suppose it's a bad idea. I would just be more comfortable using stuff that is made for a carburetor. It is not a hard thing to do to make your own pickup. See pic. I don't see anything wrong with mechanical pumps. Like jester said, they will drive you crazy sometimes, though. The thing I have against them is when the car sits awhile, it takes several cranks to get her started up again. I would just get the Holley blue label pump, it'll do what you need. But you HAVE to use a regulator with it. When you buy the pump, it comes with a regulator anyway.
