Gears are the most bang for the buck to get a heavy stock SN95 auto up and going. Yes, stock they are pretty slow. If your bf's car is a 305 it shouldn't really be THAT much more impressive though. Only reason I say that is for comparison to determine whether your car is even running as well as a stock one should. 4.10 Gears, underdrive pulleys, pull silencer off of airbox, and a good flowing H or X pipe and catback will make it a little more peppy. Also, if you don't have a chip or any sort of tuner, you can set your base timing to 14 degrees of advance at the distributor and run good octane fuel.
