I just did this for a 289, and now I am having to do it now for my 347. And I will keep doing it if it means it will last longer and give me fewer problems since there are enough probs already. With the offset pins you can either get 2 more pins or take them out and put in new block. They aren't all that hard to center up and it helps a lot in longevity.
