![]() I was wondering if ported and polished E7s and a Preformer RPM would give me a good combo? I'm wanting to get 40-50 hp?
I don't have enough money for new heads so... I have cam, TB, pullies, full exhaust and fireball ignition. Need some advise |

![]() I am unfamiliar with your combo, you should add the entire setup to your sig, or list it so you can be advised better.
No cam should be added to the stock heads. Porting the stock heads is an inefficient use of money unless you are trying to build a sleeper or run in a stock class that forbids other heads. The RPM intake is way overkill. I would suggest saving your money until you can afford a set of better heads, and a different intake. It's hard to save, but doing it right the first time will pay off. |

![]() a set of well ported E7's will out flow a set of out-of-the-box iron GT-40 heads

![]() HotRod Magazine added Explorer heads (GT40P's) and a Cobra intake and gained 30rwhp on a combo similar to yours (stock cam though). The ported E7's will do much better than stock, I'd just pick a slightly milder intake like a Cobra or Performer (not RPM). Sounds like a good budget combo to me.

![]() If you look around you can probably pick up a set of iron GT-40's for the same price it would cost you to have the E-7's ported, unless you are doing that yourself. Or even a set of E-7's already ported. I would think that porting the stock heads is a waste of money unless you have to keep them or you can get a very good price. The problem with the gt-40ps is that you have to buy special headers which makes that swap even more expensive. If you set your combo up right you can take your stock longblock into the mid 13's or better, which is faster than some guys go with $1000 heads. I'm a big believer in doing it right the first time. Save your money for what you want instead of spending it twice, once on porting the stock heads and later on a purchase of new heads. Just my.02

![]() Here's the deal. I run a 13.83@100.6 with b303, 70mm TB, pullies, Crane fireball, full exhaust and 3.55s
I know the cam and TB are to much for the stock heads and intake. But I put them in knowing I would be upgrading. The thing is money's kind of tight consider I'm a full-time student and I have an extra set of E7s sitting in my garage. I was going to port them myself and get a valve job since they had a 100,000 plus miles on them. Then slap them on with a new intake. ????????????????????????????????????????????????? |

![]() Porting the stock heads can only help, and if they're in need of a rebuild anyway, why wouldn't you? I know some people will say to put the rebuild money towards a new set of heads, but when every dollar counts sometimes it makes better fiscal sense to make what you already have a little better.
Just my humble opinion. ![]()

![]() A good home port will only give you about 170cfm intake on E7's. A far cry from the 190cfm on the GT-40/GT-40p. While technically a set of hogged out E7's machined, and CNC'd with bigger valves will outflow the GT-40/GT-40p's stock, it's not going to happen without MAJOR work. The E7's are limited to a max on the intake of about 220cfm.
Here's an idea. Go to Ebay, get a used Explorer or Cobra intake $200-$300 save a few hundred that way, and use that money to get a set of good used GT-40s. You'll have to get different headers with the GT-40p's, and that will add cost. |
