This might sound kinda weird, but you might want to keep the stock valve springs. (IMO)

The valve train is solely dependent on the cam for maximum performance. Whatever the cam calls for, that is what you should install (lifters, push rods, rockers, springs). If you don't want to keep the stock springs, I would recomend getting the stock replacements from Comp Cam's or Crane.

I would imagine someone else would differ in opinion then me but I am learing just like you

mmm......don't use stock replacement springs with 1.7rr......or with a cam ........the stock specs call for 82 lbs closed valve pressure.......if you raise the lift at all you will need stronger springs............this i learned the hard way ,i just put 1.7s on my car and replaced the origanal springs with stock spec brand new one's ......waste of money ,valve float set in imediatly and my car didn't get much faster cause i coudn't wind up to redline........i'm putting in new springs today .....a crane kit44308-1 ......kit cost like 130$ and comes with all the stuff to work on stock heads with stock valves.......there supposed to be good for like 520 lift at 6500 rpms ......only thing i had to get was washer shims to adjust installed height (.06 for ex )cause my car has had a valve job done .....

if your car is mass air i would go with a cam and 1.6 rr ......it's easier on the valve train and more upgradable for the future .......i went with 1.7s caus my cars speed density and i don't plan on rasing the lift higher down the road

as for porting e7tes .....all you really have to do is smooth out the ex side ........take the thermactor bumps off and round off the bottem of the port (there's a ridge at the bottem next to the valve, round that off )then polish them up a bit (smooth out casting bumps)..........i've been told that hoging them out a mager amount doesn't really help alot caus in order to maintain there effeciency you have to have velostity and balace between ex and int .....the e7tes are limited ........just opening up the ex a bit brings em into a much better balance and it works alot better with the intake port design ......if you hog them out you have to have a plan on design in order to keep the intake and the ex working together and at its most effecient flow............if your gonna open em up alot ,consider somone who has experience doing it or somone with a flow bench to flow test them

also to give em more punch you can mill them to raise compression .....milled mine .02

hopfully that helps .........and remember that i'm just an amueture....i still have alot to learn

thanks guys. i will be using my stock cam. like OG said, more lift is the reason i am going to put new springs in and cause my motor has 95k on it. the 1.7's are adjustable! they are they Summit brand and i got a good deal with them. the springs are beat in my car.

OG, you had to get shims for the springs? i may have to also. did that come with the Crane springs? i may use your springs then since we are doing the same thing.

as for hogging them out, i have done some research. you guys are correct. you want them to flow within each other. but here is the deal. i got a set of E7's for free! so i figure why not try it myself? so i am going to try. is their a site where someone has done the E7's? i know to remove the bumps and polish them up a bit, so i will try that.

thanks for you help guys!
